MISSION STATEMENT:
To manage a safe and sustainable transportation system for our traveling Oyate and General Public, putting safety first in all transportation related projects.
OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Department of Transportation are as follows:
- To provide a single administrative department which addresses feasibility studies, planning and implementing of various transportation related activities within the Lake Traverse Reservation.
- To improve the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate’s transportation capacities by establishing a coordinated government-to-government relationship with federal, state, county and other agencies as it relates to transportation matters.
- To develop methodologies or ideas for funding the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Department of Transportation/Tribal Roads.
- Implement and monitor policies for projects and/or program operation to ensure compliance with guidelines, regulations and requirements mandated by funding agencies and Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal government.
