Mission
The mission of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Reentry Program is to empower individuals returning to the community after incarceration to achieve successful and sustainable reintegration while honoring and preserving tribal culture. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive support that addresses the unique needs of participants, fostering personal growth, and promoting community well-being.
Eligibility Requirements
Legal Status: Individuals eligible for the program include those who are returning to the Lake Traverse Reservation after a period of incarceration, who are classified as Medium to Maximum risk offenders, due to be released from the South Dakota Department of Corrections (DOC) including: The South Dakota State Penitentiary (The Hill), Jameson Annex, Mike Durfee State Prison, and The South Dakota Women’s Prison.
Completion of Custodial Sentence: Participants must have one year prior to the completion of their custodial sentence and be in a position to actively participate in the reentry program. They will be reassessed every three months until they are released, then will be required to meet with the case manager twice a month after they are released.

This form will collect basic demographic information, tribal affiliation details, and a brief overview of the individual's reentry needs and goals.
